Avalanche at Swiss Ski Resort Kills Three, Including American Teenager
Three people, including an American teenager, have been killed in an avalanche near the Swiss resort of Zermatt, police said.
The avalanche struck on Tuesday afternoon, April 2, 2024, at about 2:15 p.m. local time. The victims were skiing off-piste when they were caught in the avalanche.
The victims have been identified as a 16-year-old American boy, a 27-year-old Swiss man, and a 35-year-old British woman. The American boy was a student at a boarding school in Switzerland.
The avalanche was triggered by a group of skiers who were skiing above the victims. The skiers were able to escape the avalanche unharmed.
