The 201112 UEFA Champions League was the 57th season of Europe's premier club football competition organized by UEFA. It began on June 28, 2011, and concluded with the final held at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, on May 19, 2012. Bayern Munich defeated Chelsea 4–3 on penalty kicks after a 1–1 draw in the final, to win their fifth UEFA Champions League title, and their first since 2001.
A total of 32 teams participated in the group stage of the competition, which included the 22 automatic qualifiers and the 10 winners of the play-off round. The teams were divided into eight groups of four, and each team played home and away matches against each other team in their group. The top two teams from each group advanced to the knockout phase, which consisted of a round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and a final.
The competition was won by Bayern Munich, who defeated Chelsea 4–3 on penalty kicks in the final. It was Bayern's fifth UEFA Champions League title, and their first since 2001. Thomas Müller was the tournament's top scorer with eight goals, and Lionel Messi was named the UEFA Player of the Year.
